The inspiration for Beyond the Frontlines Foundation grew from Shannon's combined experience in emergency response, education, research, and holistic health. The foundation was created to provide meaningful support, resilience education, wellness programming, and community connection for Canada's frontline responders, helping them thrive both on and beyond the front lines.

Beyond the Frontlines Foundation was founded by Dr. Shannon Windsor, DNM, PhD, whose career has been dedicated to supporting the health, resilience, and well-being of others.

Shannon has worked as a paramedic in British Columbia for over 18 years, beginning her career in rural communities before spending approximately 12 years as an Advanced Care Paramedic serving Surrey and the surrounding Lower Mainland. Throughout her career, she witnessed firsthand the immense physical, mental, and emotional demands placed on frontline responders, as well as the gaps that often exist in long-term wellness support.

In addition to her extensive experience in emergency medicine, Shannon holds a Master's Degree and a Doctorate (Ph.D) in Natural Medicine. She also earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Victoria, which provided her with a unique understanding of both human behaviour and holistic approaches to health and well-being.

Drawing on her experience as both an Advanced Care Paramedic and a Board-Certified Doctor of Natural Medicine, Dr. Shannon Windsor has spent more than a decade supporting clients in private practice, many of whom are first responders. She understands firsthand the demands of high-stress professions and helps individuals develop sustainable strategies to manage stress, strengthen resilience, improve overall wellness, and thrive both personally and professionally despite the challenges of unpredictable and demanding careers.

Her doctoral dissertation, Building Resilience: The Effects of Home Neurofeedback on Mental Health in First Responders, Alleviating Stress and Anxiety, examined how home neurofeedback could help reduce stress and anxiety while improving resilience and overall mental well-being in first responders.

This work further strengthened Shannon's commitment to combining evidence-informed practices with holistic wellness approaches to help first responders build resilience, manage stress more effectively, and thrive both on and beyond the front lines.
